We’re excited about engineering, and we want to share that enthusiasm. The College of Engineering knows that Nevada’s future lies with our youngest students, and we have developed a number of programs to introduce engineering to them. In partnership with local educators, we aim to help Nevada students stay focused on math and science, learn about the wide range of career possibilities engineering offers, and see how engineers can change the world.
From hands-on activities that make engineering accessible to elementary students to college preparation help for high schoolers, the College of Engineering is committed to developing a strong STEM pipeline for Nevada.

4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H began a century ago as an educational program for the nation’s rural youth. 4-H is the youth development education program of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. 4-H is the largest out-of-school youth organization in the United States with over 7 million members. There are over 49,000 young people engaged in 4-H programs across the state of Nevada. The 4-H program promotes life skills development through an expanding number of delivery modes: 4-H community and project clubs, military, and 4-H afterschool programs; special interest groups; school enrichment; camping and more. 4-H participants are all youth, ages 5 to 19, taking part in programs provided as the result of actions planned and initiated by Cooperative Extension personnel in cooperation with volunteers.

Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park

Berlin is a Nevada Ghost Town, and the park highlights fossils of Ichthyosaurs, prehistoric marine reptiles. “A nature trail connects to campground to the Fossil Shelter, information and viewing windows are available at the Fossil Shelter if you cannot attend a scheduled tour.”
Fort Churchill State Historic Park.
“Explore Nevada’s Emigrant and Native American History.” A site for school field trips as well as families. Explore Nevada’s history along the Carson River in this “crossroads of major events when it was built in 1860. The Pony Express and emigrant trails passed through this base for troops at the start of the Civil War. The buildings are in ruins. Three plant communities are here, from Floodplain River Terrace, riparian community, and Upland Scrub. User fees for entrance, camping, picnicing and group use. No collection of plants, animals, rocks, minerals, and artifacts. Pets allowed.
