It takes a state to make a difference!
The Nevada STEM Coalition provides critical information to our communities, educators, business people and legislators about why STEM education is so important for EVERY student in the state and the importance of best practices in STEM education. In order to build a workforce for our economic sectors and a population that understands the challenges facing our world, we need a scientifically literate society. That doesn’t mean that everyone needs to be a scientist; it means that every Nevadan needs a basic set of scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills–just as basic as reading and mathematics!
Everyone needs to advocate for quality education for all.
In today’s world, all students need and deserve a quality, balanced curriculum that includes reading, mathematics, science/engineering, technology, social studies and the arts. The workplace, community, and government all require solutions reached through perspectives and skills of many different disciplines. We cannot rely on narrow solutions to the ever increasing complex challenges of our world. It is NOT OK for some students to receive better instruction than the less fortunate. Nevada’s future relies on ensuring that all students have the opportunity to pursue certificates, degrees, and careers that meet Nevada’s economic strategies and that meet their personal goals.
Please join us in making a difference. There are many ways:
- speak to local educators, schools, districts, and government officials about the importance of science/STEM education and a balanced curriculum
- insist on solutions that are research based and fully funded
- volunteer, either as a school helper or a STEM Ambassador. Share your STEM skills with students, teachers, and more!
- contribute to the Nevada STEM Coalition efforts
- contribute to schools-they are constantly in need of teaching supplies
